"Dust Prayer" Fireplace Ash

This is a Turkish style prayer rug made using a cut stencil and fireplace ash. Usually prayer rugs have an architectural element on one end which is used to orient the rug and the body on the rug. This piece quotes a specific 17th century Turkish Kumkapi rug in which the architectural element is more of a figure. I let the interior purposely blank as a way to refer to absence. It is a piece where if you were to use it a prayer rug you would destroy it in the process.
